Trong IELTS, biết sử dụng thành ngữ lại càng giúp bạn gây ấn tượng với examiner đó
Đừng quên take note những thành ngữ của MES dưới đây để tích lũy cho mình kho vốn từ phong phú nhé !!
1. As easy as pie: Rất dễ, dễ như ăn bánh
Eg: He said it is a difficult problem, but I don’t agree. It seems as easy as pie to me!
2. Sleep on it: Suy nghĩ (trước khi quyết định)
Eg: That sounds like a good deal, but I’d like to sleep on it before I give you my final decision.
3.Put yourself in somebody’s shoes: Thử đặt mình vào vị trí/hoàn cảnh của người khác
Eg: If you put yourself in my shoes, you would understand why I made that decision.
4. Bend over backwards: Rất cố gắng ( có khi quá sức )
Eg: He bent over backwards to please his new wife, but she never seemed satisfied.
5. Change one’s mind: Đổi ý
Eg: I was planning to work late tonight, but I changed my mind. I’ll do extra work on the weekend instead.
6. Drop someone a line: Gửi 1 lá thư hay email cho ai đó
Eg: It was good to meet you . Drop me a line when you have time.
7. Fill in for someone: Làm dùm ai khi họ vắng mặt
Eg: While I was away from the store, my brother filled in for me.
8. Give someone a hand: Giúp
Eg: I want to move this desk. Can you give me a hand?
9. Keep one’s chin up: Dũng cảm và tiếp tục
Eg: I know things have been difficult for you recently, but keep your chin up. It will get better soon.
10. Know something like the back of your hand: Biết 1 việc gì rất rõ
Eg: If you get lost, just ask me for directions. I know this part of town like the back of my hand.
11. Don’t judge a book by it’s cover: Đừng đánh giá một sự vật/sự việc/con người chỉ qua vẻ bề ngoài
Eg: He doesn’t look very intelligent, but you can’t judge a book by its cover.
12. Miss the boat = To miss an opportunity: Lỡ cơ hội
Eg: If you miss the boat, it means you are too late to get an opportunity in my company.
13. Leave no stone unturned: Làm tất cả để đạt mục tiêu
Eg: I’ll leave no stone unturned until I find out the reason.
14. Sit on the fence: Lưỡng lự
Eg: I’m sitting on the fence with my girlfriend when we went shopping!
15. No one’s cup of tea: Thứ gì đó không phải sở thích hoặc việc gì đó một người không thích làm
Eg: Going to art galleries is not my cup of tea so I think that I will stay home this evening.
16. Be the apple of one’s eye: Chỉ người hoặc vật mà được ai đó yêu quý nhất
Eg: The little girl is the apple of her father’s eye.
17. Bread and butter: Công việc, nguồn thu nhập chính để duy trì cuôc sống
Eg: One does almost anything to earn their bread and butter in this cold-hearted world.
18. Let the cat out of the bag: Tiết lộ bí mật
Eg: The culprit let the cat out of the bag when he was caught by the police.
19. Big cheese: Một người rất quan trọng
Eg: My uncle is a big cheese in his.
20. Find my feet: Cảm thấy thoải mái để làm việc gì
Eg: Moving to a new city was difficult at first, but I soon found my feet.
