20 idioms hữu ích chủ đề Health trong IELTS

Tình hình phức tạp của dịch bệnh khiến cho chủ đề Health trở thành một trong những chủ đề được quan tâm nhất dạo gần đây. Cùng MES ôn tập lại những cụm idioms chủ đề sức khoẻ dễ dùng và hay gặp nhé.

A. Idiom chỉ trạng thái sức khỏe tốt

• On the mend: trở nên tốt hơn sau chấn thương hoặc cơn bệnh

E.g. She, despite still being in the hospital, is definitely on the mend now.

• take a turn for the better: đột nhiên trở nên tốt hơn

E.g. His stomach could take turn for the better without having any operation.

• pull through (sth): trở nên tốt hơn sau căn bệnh hoặc sau cuộc phẩu thuật.

E.g. I hope people who contract the COVID-19 will pull through soon.

• wear off: dần biến mất (dùng để chỉ cơn đau, cảm giác, hoặc ảnh hưởng)

E.g. After killing thousand of people and damaging the global economy, people all around the world hope that the COVID-19 could wear off as soon as possible.

• Clean bill of health: rất khỏe mạnh, không còn vấn đề sức khỏe

E.g. Surgeons have carried out several vital operations to given him a clean bill of health

• As right as rain: khỏe mạnh

E.g. You need to have a staple diet and do exercises to be as right as rain.

• Back on my feet: Trở lại như trước, bình phục trở lại

E.g. After being sick as a dog several days, he is back on his feet now.

• As fit as fiddle: khỏe mạnh, đầy năng lượng

E.g. Because of eating fish nearly every day, Japanese people are as fit as a fiddle even the elderly.

• Full of beans: rất khỏe mạnh, tràn đầy năng lượng

E.g. In oder to be full of beans every morning, we need to have a good night’s sleep.

• Kick the habit: từ bỏ thói quen xấu

E.g. Giang is a heavy smoker, he needs to kick the habit right away.

B. Idiom chỉ trạng thái sức khỏe xấu

• Come/ go down with sth: mắc các loại bệnh phổ biến như cảm, cúm…

E.g. My boss feel like I am coming down with a cold, so that he ask to take me a day off.

• Pick sth up: mắc các loại bệnh truyền nhiễm (do virus gây ra)

E.g. There were more than 200 thousand people picking up Yersinia pestis.

• Go round: lan truyền từ người sang người

E.g. There is a nasty bug going round at the moment, and many people contract it.

• Take a turn for the worse: đột nhiên trở nên tệ

E.g. Despite undergoing major operation, his health takes turn for the worse.

• Go downhill: sức khỏe, chất lượng lao dốc

E.g. After the death of her mother, Anna’s health went downhill.

• Off-colour: (SYN under the weather) cảm thấy không khỏe, mắc bệnh

E.g. After spending 90 hours for working last week, I feel exhausted and a bit off-colour now.

• Feel/ look like death warmed up: cảm thấy không khỏe, mắc bệnh

E.g. He, despite following different treatment regimens, still looks like death warmed up.

• Blue around the gills: trông xanh xao gầy yếu

E.g. Mai, who stuck to a starvation diet, looks kind of green around the gills.

• A frog in one’s throat: đau cổ, không nói được

E.g. Giang is a talkative boy, so he always has a frog in his throat.

• Going down/ dropping like flies: thường dùng để chỉ bệnh dịch, cái chết lây lan

E.g. People were dropping like flies in 14th and 15th centuries because of Yersinia pestis.
